Welfare Cuts, Division, and the Far Right
When a society serves mammon, laying up its treasures on earth while turning from the poor in spirit and those who mourn, it sows the seeds of division.
By withholding mercy, it judges the vulnerable and creates a void.
Into this void rushes the disease of the mind: 'like' and 'dislike,' 'us' and 'them.'
People left to hunger in body and spirit will grasp for certainty.
In their confusion, they mistake the pointing finger of blame for the Way and build their house on the shifting sands of anger.
I say to you, first remove the plank of avarice from the nation's eye.
Blessed are the merciful, for their society will not fall into this confusion, but will inherit the earth.
