The Pervasive Mystery
(A reflection on the Transcendent and All-Pervasive Reality)
Blessed are those who live the "circa" life, for they dwell around the mystery without needing to trap it in words. They do not build their house on the rock of unbending doctrine, nor on the sand of passing opinion, but find their peace in the flowing grace of the now.
You have heard it said by those who seek to measure the boundless, in their charts of the spirit, "Beyond the senses is the mind, Beyond the mind is the intellect, Higher than the intellect is the Great Atman, Beyond the Great Atman is the Unmanifest."
And you seek this "Person," this "all-pervading" truth, as if it were the last peak of a distant mountain.
But I say to you, these are signposts, not the destination. The moment you name the "Unmanifest," it is something else. The moment you grasp for the "Person," you have made a distinction, and are as far from it as heaven is from earth.
Do not hold to these maps as if they are the Way. Do not ask, "Is the Father transcendent or all-pervasive?" To choose "this" or "that" is the disease of the mind. The Way is not difficult; just let go of preferences.
The glory of the Father fills the world, but the world cannot contain the Father. To see this, you must be pure in heart. To be pure in heart is to see without division.
You are "circa" this Reality. You are not your past, which is a shadow, nor your future, which is a dream. You live in the sacred "in-between." This, this, is the Kingdom of Heaven.
Why do you look for the "ground of being" as if it is under your feet? It is your feet. Why do you seek the "energy in the atom"? It is the seeing of your own eye. You are looking for the One, and it is the One that is looking.
Therefore, let go of the need for sharp edges and final answers. Live gently within the soft focus of faith. You are always "circa" this sacred mystery. You are always, approximately, home.
Words! Words! The Way is beyond language. It is here.
